Liverpool John Moores University

LJMU Writing&Talking Saturday Club is a creative writing group where participants explore their writing ideas and skills. Each week Club Members approach a different form of writing, these sessions include; Writing about yourself, what objects tell us and cut ups and wordplay.

The Club is conducted in a friendly and relaxed group each week with Liverpool novelist, Caroline Smailes and student helpers, Liam Porter and Anah Sharif. Each week will offer new ways of approaching stories and poems. The class produces new work each time and this takes the form of posters, pamphlets and notebooks full of work. The best of this material will be developed into an anthology to be showcased at the Summer Show, in London.

The Club will also get the opportunity to visit the Walker Gallery to write about the gallery’s paintings and sculpture, and the Liverpool Museum where writing takes place in an old Liverpool tram or beside the museum’s replica Liverbird. For its Masterclass in April, the Writing&Talking Club will work with the stand up comedian, Tim Miles to write gags and the preform them at an open mike.
