The Northern School of Art – Hartlepool

The National Saturday Club at The Northern School of Art is an exciting and unique opportunity for 13–16-year-olds to experience a wide range of creative and exciting art and design disciplines such as drawing and painting, mixed media, textile design, ceramics, printmaking and graphic design within a specialist environment.

Club members will receive expert tuition and guidance from staff to develop a portfolio of work without the pressure of assessment. There will be opportunities to exhibit work in London as well as in termly exhibitions within the school itself. The Club encourages long term progression skills and also the opportunity to explore both creativity and individual potential within a supportive, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Members come from lots of different schools and areas so there are opportunities to meet new people and make new friends with a shared interest.

Club members will also take part in national events including Masterclasses with leading industry professionals and the Summer Show, where all Club members exhibit their work in a public exhibition – all for free!

I enjoyed meeting new people who had similar interests as me and forming some good friendships. I also learnt how to make a digital portrait and embroidery fabric, both things I had never done before.

The National Saturday Club is a fantastic and valuable opportunity for members to develop their creative and technical skills in art and design. The opportunity to exhibit in London is a real confidence boost and raises their self-esteem and long-term goals and ambitions
