University for the Creative Arts Canterbury

This year’s Art&Design Saturday Club at the University of the Creative Arts Canterbury campus will be getting experimental and creating sculptures, casting, mark making, and drawing as well as printing, photography and design. Young artists will be working with UCA’s art tutors to develop their own projects and body of work covering a range of artistic practices.

This opportunity allows young people to create a portfolio of their own ideas, designs and creative processes giving them the confidence to continue with their creative journey, growing their own practice along the way. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to collaborate with other young people and professional artists within an inspirational and creative setting.

Members of all four UCA Saturday Club’s exhibited their work at Cass Art Kingston in April 2018. This opportunity showcased the fantastic artwork of the Club members, displaying a range of skills, techniques and ideas. As part of the opening event members’ families were invited to join a celebration of the groups’ achievements so far while the UCA Saturday Clubs from Kent came together to create a collaborative on-site installation.

As part of the National Saturday Club programme, the Club will also take part in three National Events: the London Visit, in which Members create a pop-up self-portrait exhibition and visit the capital’s leading museums and galleries; a Masterclass with an industry professional; and the Summer Show, where all Club Members from around the country exhibit their work at Somerset House, London – all for free.

I just wanted to tell you how fantastic it is – thanks to the endless enthusiasm of [the tutors]. It is absolutely the highlight of my daughter’s week.

Being interested in art can be quite isolating and it’s just so good to have the chance to practice with others at that age.
