On Saturday 25th January and Saturday 1st February at Tate Exchange, the National Saturday Club and design collective Scale Rule will welcome 8 Saturday Clubs and over 120 Club members to take part in a multi-disciplinary Masterclass exploring the theme ‘The Power of Collaboration’.
Led by Scale Rule, the Masterclasses will give Club members the chance to consider selected artworks from the Tate’s permanent collection guided by professionals from a host of disciplines including engineering, graphic design and architecture.
In the Tate Exchange space, the young people will work in groups to translate their responses to the artworks into three-dimensional forms. By creating a tunnel from string and bamboo and solving structural engineering challenges, the young people will employ spatial planning techniques, collaborating to solve a problem and to construct an immersive installation.
The Tate Exchange space is open to the public and you are welcome to come along to see the young people’s work and share your own thoughts and ideas in response to the theme. Find out more
Masterclasses are a vital element of the National Saturday Club programme, allowing young people aged 13–16 unparalleled access to some of the best creative minds in the country and giving young people a truly memorable creative experience that develops their skills and builds their confidence.
