We had a blast with working with the kids, and saw some really amazing and unexpected results.Michael Kloihofer, Heatherwick Studio
As part of their Club programme, all members attend a Masterclass delivered by a prominent industry professional working in a field relevant to their subject. The session is always a motivating and memorable event, offering young people an opportunity to meet and collaborate with some of the most high-profile practitioners in the country.
Every Masterclass is unique but all encompass an introduction to the professional’s personal education and career journey. Club members take part in a practical workshop, in which they can apply the skills and techniques they’ve learned in their Saturday Club. Some Clubs travel to the Masterclass giver’s workplace, which provides an invaluable snapshot of the world of work and the chance to meet other members of the team.
Most of the National Saturday Club’s Masterclasses are organised as one-off events, although some are held as joint sessions between Clubs. Occasionally, the partnership between the Club and the Masterclass giver continues in the form of a longer-term project. In either case, members gain first-hand advice from an eminent practitioner and new role models, which helps further their understanding of the educational and career opportunities open to them.
