Zaim Kamal, creative director

  • University for the Creative Arts Farnham

The University of the Creative Arts Farnham Club thoroughly enjoyed their Masterclass with Zaim Kamal, creative director of Montblanc. After giving a presentation about how he works, Zaim set the young people a brief: to design a bag with a particular user in mind, starting by thinking about types of people, and then creating a mood board about them and the sort of bag they might need.

He brought lots of samples of materials, gave the group information on how they might be used and explained their properties, as well as describing technological innovations that could be included, and worked with each member to help them and give them feedback.

At the end, they each presented their ideas. “It was brilliant to see how they had all grasped the design process,” said tutor Ellen Brown. “They had all put careful consideration into who the bag was for and how it would be used. They really considered every detail possible, and were able to talk about their designs critically.”
