Ben Benoliel, fashion photographer

  • Cleveland College of Art

Cleveland College of Art and Design‘s Masterclass with fashion photographer Ben Benoliel started with a detailed presentation about his background and career, explaining how he had needed to be adaptable to all sorts of changes and different demands within the creative industries.

He also emphasised the importance of social media as a means of professional self-promotion and, showing the group his own Instagram feed, explained the thinking behind some of his posts. The second part of the session was practical: to create photographic images for a social-media campaign, thinking specifically about lighting and texture.

In small groups, the Club members worked around and outside the college as well as in an area that Ben had set up with studio lighting, and then chose their five best photographs to show on a projector. Ben rounded off the day with a critique of the images, saying how impressed he was with the high quality of their work.
