Standpoint, New North Press

  • Victoria and Albert Museum

Standpoint hosted the V&A Saturday Club for an inspiring Masterclass with the support of artisan letterpress studio New North Press and ceramicist Katrin Maier. Members had the opportunity to experiment with these different mediums producing some exceptional results.

In the ceramics studio, Katrin guided the young people as they produced a wide variety of expressive press-moulded plates, using different coloured clays, slip from Kentish Town and sand from the banks of the Thames and Cornish beaches to decorate them.

During the letterpress session, each Club member was asked to devise a phrase or slogan responding to the question, ‘If I could change or bring back anything what would it be?’. They were then shown how to set traditional wooden type in the studio’s beautiful old printing press.
