Jenny Kilbride MBE and Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft, textile artist

  • Northbrook College Sussex

Northbrook Metropolitan College’s Art&Design Club enjoyed a brilliant dyeing and weaving Masterclass at the Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft led by weaver Jenny KilBride MBE. Jenny demonstrated how to dye yarn using natural materials – namely onion skins, the madder plant and indigo crystals.  She involved all the club members in dyeing the yarn in a series of saucepans on portable hobs.

Once the yarns were dried and untangled, Jenny demonstrated how to weave the wefts and the members all began to create their own pieces of work. As well as the yarns that they had dyed earlier, they were able to use yarn and other materials in the learning space’s collection.
