Saturday Club Alumni Ben Lintell Exhibits His Glass Art in Venice

20 September, 2022

Taking part in the Saturday Club at Arts University Plymouth from 2009 to 2010, Ben Lintell was one of the very first members of the National Saturday Club. Afterwards, he went on to study at the university and supported their Saturday Club as a student assistant.

Since then, Benjamin’s career has taken him around the world, working with some of the world’s best glass artists including Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert in Paris, and Nancy Callan and Mel Douglas at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. He is currently based in Murano, Venice.

From the 17th to 25th September 2022, Ben’s work, ‘In Place,’ will be on display as a part of The Venice Glass Week

In 2021, we spoke to Ben about his time at the Arts University Plymouth Saturday Club:

“The Club helped me to develop and hone my skills and it gave me real insight into the creative industries and the potential there was in it for me. Using professional equipment made me feel that anything was possible and working with dedicated creative professionals gave me the confidence to think big.

I was asked to go as a representative to London to talk about the work of our Club and that experience really stuck with me.

I would say to any creatively-minded younger person that they should join a Saturday Club – you never know where it might take you. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I wouldn’t be where I am without it.”

Ben Lintell: In Place

2022 was designated by the UN as the  International Year of Glass. The Italian Glass Weeks are dedicated to celebrating, promoting and supporting the art of glass. Ben’s piece, ‘In Place’, will be on display during the second week of the festival in Venice, from 17 to 25 September.

In Place’ explores the ”visible and invisible forces working to hold things in balance and shape the direction of our future.” Ben describes the body of work as something that “[embraces] this interconnection. There is beauty to be found in the paths that connect us and suspend us in place.”
