Since its inception, as part of the National Saturday Club’s annual programme, Saturday Clubs have come together in the Autumn Term as a national network for The Visit. This year, thanks to the expansion of Saturday Clubs across the nation, three regional events will be taking place, allowing more young people access to cultural spaces they may not have been before, in vibrant cities across the UK.
It’s with great pleasure to announce two new locations to The Visit calendar this year, the Manchester Visit, and the Plymouth Visit! These events will provide space for Club members from the north and south-west of England the opportunity to engage with the rich cultural offering of their region.
We’re delighted to return to London to kick off The Visit series, where Club members from across the south-east will explore the exciting city with their Club.
The Visit provides Club members the opportunity to travel as a Club to vibrant cultural spaces, take part in immersive workshops, interact with other Club members and see their work on display at a pop-up “Expressions of Self” exhibition.
The annual self-expression project will see three “Expressions of Self” pop-up exhibitions take place in some of UK’s most renowned cultural and educational spaces:
The London Visit – Central Saint Martins
The Manchester Visit – Factory International
The Plymouth Visit – The Box and Arts University Plymouth
The “Expressions of Self” project enables Club members to explore themes of identity and self-expression through a wide variety of creative media, across all the subject strands of the National Saturday Club programme. Club members work on their pieces during their weekly classes ahead of The Visit. Collectively the portraits are a celebration of young people’s individuality, diversity and unique perspectives.
We are incredibly grateful to our network of cultural partners for their support in breaking down barriers and allowing 13-16-year-olds access to life-enhancing cultural experiences.
