UCL East Writing and Talking Club will hone your skills in both areas through a broad programme of exciting activities. Delivered by UCL experts and creative professionals, this fun and inclusive club will give you the chance to try out a wide range of forms of written and spoken expression.

You’ll learn how to think creatively, work with others and express ideas through words, sounds, performance and more. Try your hand at creative writing or pubic speaking. Learn how to use language for impact, express yourself in poetry and performance and get inspired by writing and speech from different times and places.

The club is held weekly during term time, at UCL’s Marshgate building on the Olympic Park in Stratford, London. This club is open to young people in Years 9 and 10 (as of September 2026) who live or go to school in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

Club members will also take part in free national events including the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs nationwide exhibit their work in a public exhibition, and Masterclasses with leading industry professionals.
