University of Salford
Unfiltered: Stories for Social Justice is a free, hands-on Saturday Club for 13–16-year-olds at MediaCity, delivered by the University of Salford. Over 15 weeks, participants explore social justice issues through podcasting and documentary film making, developing practical media skills used across the creative industries.
The programme is led by two experienced industry professionals: a BBC audio producer and a filmmaker. Participants will also take part in specialist masterclasses, including sessions led by a professional podcast producer whose work includes award-winning BBC podcasts “You Me and the Big C” and “Fighting Talk”, and a film-making masterclass with an award-winning documentary filmmaker who works for True North Productions.
Working with industry experts, participants research topics they care about, record interviews, capture sound and film, and edit their own audio and visual content. The programme concludes with a showcase of their work. No experience is required – just curiosity, creativity, and a passion for storytelling.
Club members will also take part in free national events including the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs nationwide exhibit their work in a public exhibition, and Masterclasses with leading industry professionals.
