Boeing, future of aircraft design

  • Brunel University

Brunel University Science&Engineering Saturday Club took part in a Masterclass with Boeing, exploring interior aircraft design.

The session began with an introduction to the Boeing team, who shared insights into their roles and how different departments collaborate. They also discussed career pathways, highlighting the diverse opportunities within the global aviation industry.

Club members were then set a challenge: to design and prototype a ‘Bed Pod’ for airline passengers. Working in teams, they considered customer needs, budget constraints, and construction techniques. Each member took on a specific role – such as Creative Director or Chief Engineer – developing their teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Using recycled cardboard and other materials, the teams built life-sized models, testing their structural integrity. Designs included innovative features like retractable televisions and built-in sound systems.

The Masterclass concluded with pitches to the Boeing team, who evaluated each concept, celebrating the creativity and engineering behind every design.
