Sculptor, Fernando Casasempere visited the Victoria and Albert Museum Art&Design Saturday Club to deliver a Masterclass in clay sculpture and ceramics.
Fernando began the workshop by taking the Club members on a tour of the museum’s extensive ceramics collection, explaining the history and techniques of the craft. He encouraged the young people to take note of pieces that interested them, so that they could then use these ideas to inform their own sculptures.
When the group returned to the workshop, Fernando told the young people a little more about his own work and inspiration and then encouraged them to think about what they’d like to create. Each Club member produced a unique piece, influenced by the work they had seen in the gallery and developed with their own imagination. Fernando worked with the Club members individually to enhance and support their work.
By the end of the Masterclass all of the Club members had created clay sculptures to be proud of, these will now be fired and then displayed at the Summer Show at Somerset House in June.
Thank you very much to Parafin Gallery for their help organising this wonderful opportunity for the Club members at the Victoria and Albert Museum Saturday Club.
