Society&Change Saturday Club members at the University of Derby took part in a thought-provoking Masterclass led by Naked Politics, a media and education organisation empowering young people to engage with democracy.
The Masterclass began with a presentation on activism and social movements, exploring the different phases of a movement and the roles individuals can play within them.
The group then analysed a range of journalism videos, with the Naked Politics team prompting Club members to question the content as they watched. This sparked important discussions around media bias, the reliability of sources, and how narratives are shaped.
In their second activity, they applied this critical lens by designing a short social media video based on a real-world movement, using storytelling to engage and inform.
The final part of the session explored campaigning and manifesto writing. After a concise introduction to the UK political system, Club members then collaborated to write and present their own work.
