Pearlfisher, a creative design and branding agency, led a Masterclass for Art&Design Club members from Buckinghamshire New University. Creative Director David Jenkinson and Senior Designer Dan Bowstead started with a presentation on graphic design, defined by Pearlfisher as a ‘profession whose activity consists in projecting visual communications intended to transmit specific messages to social groups, with specific objectives.’
During the introductory talk, Club members were encouraged to consider the fundamentals of graphic design, including colour, typography, shape, format, symbolism and materials. After an introduction to typography, members were then challenged to use their name or initials to create their own logotype.
With access to large cardboard letters, lino and ink, members were able to explore a variety of different printing methods.
