Artists and makers Daniela Rubino and Lauren Wilson of Rubino Wilson lead a pewter casting Masterclass for Art&Design Saturday Club members from Merrist Wood College, Activate Learning.
Club members carved a mould for their jewellery into cuttlefish bone before pouring in the pewter – a technique that dates back to the Vikings. Making multiple moulds throughout the Masterclass meant Club members learned from each casting and were able to refine their technique.
Files and sandpaper were used by the Club members to polish and finish their creations. At the end of the Masterclass, Club members shared their objects in a mini showcase, which consisted of pendants and rings featuring casts of robots and dinosaurs.
