Scale Rule are a built environment collective promoting diversity, community participation, and public engagement in the sector.
At the beginning of the collaborative Scale Rule x London Zoo Masterclass Masterclass, Science&Engineering Club members from University of Salford and Anglia Ruskin University, and Art&Design Club members from University of the Arts London, Camberwell, heard from Scale Rule about possible career paths in civil and structural engineering.
Then, London Zoo staff presented Club members with their brief for the day: to create their own animal shelter designs. Club members were introduced to how animal enclosures are made, the history of the zoo and roles within the grounds. Using Stixx and newspaper, and split into three separate groups, shelters were designed and prototypes made for tiger, lemur, and giraffe shelters.
