University of Westminster’s Masterclass with Sebastian Conran was held at his studios, and started with a tour of the workshop followed by a presentation which took them from Sebastian’s earliest work through to current projects and his new biomimetic companion robot, MIRO.
He also told the group about his design philosophy, and offered insights into retail design, marketing and pricing.The Club members were fascinated by Sebastian’s workplace and enjoyed trying out an electric folding chair and seeing products in development.
The last section of what was a very positive and enjoyable day was a quick task: to design something that could be made robotic. Using sketch-books and pencils, the young people came up with some imaginative ideas to link into their sessions at the Club.
