Art&Design Saturday Club members from Northumbria University and Gateshead College took part in a Masterclass with Templo, a cause-led branding and communications agency.
The day began with Templo designers sharing their creative journeys and showcasing branding projects that highlight how design can communicate powerful social messages. They explained that branding goes far beyond logos, focusing instead on meaning, emotion, and purpose.
Club members then explored the theme of ‘anti-war’, using guided questions to reflect on the emotional and visual impact of conflict. They were encouraged to consider what peace looks like, what is lost in war, and what offers hope.
Using gridded paper, Club members sketched symbols based on their ideas, before combining two into one bold image – a design technique known as ‘colliding’. They then created stencils and spray-painted their final designs onto tote bags.
The session ended with each Club member presenting their design and creative inspiration.
