  • Bridgend College

Creatives Now, Queen’s Hall Arts Centre and Bridgend College Film&Screen Saturday Clubs were joined by writer and director Tiarnan for a Masterclass in directing for film and TV.

Tiarnan introduced himself and his career before hearing from Club members about their film interests and current favourite films. Tiarnan then posed the question, “what is a director?” sparking a thoughtful discussion around the director’s role and responsibilities.

The group then explored different camera shot types, with Tiarnan offering insightful explanations, such as the origin of the “cowboy shot”. Club members then applied their learning to a practical task, creating a floor plan and shot list for a scene from The Robbery, before watching a professionally filmed version.

After a break, Tiarnan introduced a script with no context, challenging Club members to develop characters, setting, and motivation. The creative ideas sparked lively pitches.

The day ended with Tiarnan sharing resources for aspiring filmmakers and a Q&A with the Club members, having insightful conversations about the impact of AI on the industry.
