Vicky Price, textile printing with dye sublimation

  • Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery

Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery Craft&Making Saturday Club welcomed award-winning visual artist Vicky Price for a Masterclass in textile printing using dye sublimation.

Vicky began by introducing her artistic practice, sharing examples of her large-scale print works and explaining how she combines eco-conscious techniques with creative innovation. She spoke about her studio processes, the development of sustainable methods in textile print, and offered insights into arts education, funding, and building a career as a professional artist.

Moving into the practical element, Club members took inspiration from the museum’s collection to create nature-themed designs. Vicky introduced eco-disperse dyes, explaining how they reduce water usage in the textile industry and the science behind how heat bonds dyes to fibres.

Club members then experimented with different materials, learning how to safely use the heat press. Techniques included painting, stamping, pressing objects into dye, and creating large-scale paper designs. The result was a vibrant collection of individually printed textiles.
