Artist Birungi Kawooya lead a Wellbeing Warriors Masterclass for Art&Design Saturday Club members from University of Wolverhampton, where they created their own shields.
Birungi shared her journey as a Black British born/Ugandan woman and touched on her experiences of discrimination in the corporate world, which led her to focus on art. Where words can’t articulate how she feels, Birungi uses African printed fabric, banana leaves, drawing, and collage, among other materials, to represent her past, present, and future, and celebrate Black womxnhood.
Club members embraced the themes of reflection and meditation to begin creating their own shields, and later in the Masterclass, a larger collaborative piece.
