Kingston University London and Cranford Community College Art&Design Saturday Clubs took part in an exciting Masterclass at Christie’s auction house.
The session began with a presentation by Chelsea, the Programme Manager, who introduced Christie’s and its role in the art world. Club members were then invited to guess the sales price of various artworks, gaining insight into the valuation of objects sold at auction. An apprentice from Christie’s followed with an engaging talk on career pathways into the organisation, including work experience, internships, and apprenticeships.
The group then explored the Picasso Vermin exhibition, guided by one of Christie’s exhibition coordinators, who offered deeper context on the show.
Club members then worked in teams to curate their own mini-exhibitions using cut-outs of artworks, developing themes and arranging pieces within 3D dioramas, mirroring how real auctions are planned for maximum impact.
To round off the day, everyone had a go on the auction podium, gavel in hand for a fun photo opportunity!
