Sheffield Hallam University’s Art&Design Club visited the David Mellor factory in Heathersage for an introduction to the company’s metal-work. Corin Mellor gave the group a short talk about the history of Sheffield and its cutlery-making tradition, as well as the work of David Mellor.
Corin advised his young visitors that “it’s so important to understand how things are made before you design them”, also noting “at David Mellor we regard a good design as something that will last at least 10 years”.
As a final activity, Corin challenged the group to re-design the ‘David Mellor Child’s cutlery set’ and was very impressed by their efforts.
