MIMA, part of Teesside University Art&Design Saturday Club took part in a Masterclass led by Cassie Quinn, founder of CQ Studio, exploring repeat print stencilling and natural colours.
Cassie began by introducing her background as a textile artist and her journey into sustainable material development. She shared insights into her creative process, emphasising the importance of experimentation, noting that 80% of her product development involves learning from mistakes.
Club members were then guided in designing their own repeat print stencils, using natural paints derived from plants, food waste, and seaweed. Cassie explained the scientific processes behind the colours, including algae-based greens, insect-derived reds, and turmeric yellows.
With Cassie’s guidance, Club members set up their screen-printing frames, layering intricate designs of blossoms, leaves, and stars. To conclude, Cassie gifted Club member’s CQ Studio paints, encouraging them to continue their sustainable creative practices at home.
