David Lees, jmarchitects

In a joint Masterclass with the Art&Design Club at the University of Lincoln, members of Grimsby Institute’s  Club learned about the history of architecture and built a model skyscraper. Led by David Lees of jmarchitects, the session began with an introduction to what architects do and what buildings can tell us about the times in which they were constructed. They then split into teams and were given floor plates to form the central core of the building.

The challenge was to design a space bin which they would want to spend time. While working, they discussed engineering, plans, scale, materials, colour and light, and negotiated with the other teams. At the end of the session they assembled all the floors together to create an impressive end-result.
