Nottingham Trent University Art&Design Saturday Club and the Museum of Making Craft&Making Saturday Clubs took part in a Masterclass with Howdens where they had an insight into product development.
Howdens introduced their design approach, focusing on sustainability, changing living spaces, and social trends. They highlighted key demographic shifts – fewer multigenerational households, more shared accommodations, and a rise in people living alone – defining these as growth areas.
Club members were challenged to design a kitchen cabinet that would appeal to a variety of consumers. The session encouraged them to consider functionality, future consumer needs, materials, and branding.
The Masterclass concluded with presentations, where Club members pitched their prototypes to Howdens. Feedback centred on design, usability, and innovation, offering valuable insight into real-world product development.
