Jason Bruges Studio, locally inspired dioramas

  • Higher Horizons Keele University
  • Higher Horizons University of Staffordshire

HH+ Keele University Science&Engineering Saturday Club and Higher Horizons University of Staffordshire Art&Design Saturday Club headed to the Jason Bruges Studio for a Masterclass focused on creating a physical diorama (a kind of 3D stage!), exploring different art mediums and lights to create a spectacle representing what Stoke means to the Club members.

The session began with Jason and his team introducing their careers and the studio’s large-scale interactive installations. Jason shared his journey from architecture to art, highlighting projects that combine engineering, science, and design.

Club members were then tasked with creating dioramas representing Stoke, using LED lighting and mixed media to bring their ideas to life. Groups explored themes such as Stoke’s industrial heritage, cultural icons, and personal interpretations of home.

With access to plasticine, cardboard, reflective surfaces, and LED strips, Club members crafted intricate designs, including a moving Spitfire, a waterfall of poppies, and bottle kilns made of plasticine. The session concluded with a showcase of their work, celebrating the Club members’ creativity and storytelling.
