Matt Jones, a creative director at Google, started his Masterclass at Cardiff Metropolitan University’s –Art&Design Club which had joined forces with the university’s Science&Engineering Club – with an informative, engaging and funny presentation about himself, his background, past projects, and the concept of service design.
The young people’s first challenge was to become what Matt called “a drawing machine”. Using toys as a starting point, each group created a table of Post-it drawings, abstracting objects to generate ideas. Their second activity was to design traps for either a mouse or a ghost.
The latter project in particular made them think conceptually, and they came up with both product and service designs that really impressed Matt when they presented them at the end of the session.
