Fashion&Business and Art&Design Saturday Club members at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, took part in a Masterclass led by M&S and Circle-8 Textile Ecosystems, exploring circularity in fashion and recycled textile materials.

The session began with introductions from the M&S and Circle-8 teams, who shared their career journeys and outlined the environmental challenges posed by textile waste. Circle-8 demonstrated their innovative work in recycling used textiles back into high-quality fibres, ready to re-enter the supply chain.

Club members were then tasked to assess a range of used garments, deciding whether each item was best suited for resale or recycling. They then developed imaginative consumer campaigns to raise awareness of textile recycling. From mascots and slogans to ambassador schemes and bus stop adverts, the campaigns considered diverse audiences and methods of engagement.

M&S also shared insights into the wide range of careers available within the company and how to access them.
