In an exciting and inventive Masterclass at the studios of RSHP, Cambridge School of Art club members created a model for a new city on Mars. The team of model-makers and architects led off with a quick discussion of the types of structure the young people might need to include and how they might differ between Earth and Mars. The next step was to choose a building type and draw the structures, working together on how the buildings connected to create a skyline.
The young people then moved on to making 3D models of their buildings, using paper, foam, foam board, card, straws, pipe cleaners and plastic pots. As they worked, the RSHP team gave the Club members lots of handy tips, and also spoke about their own routes into working in the creative industries. By the end of the day the group had made an impressive set of models that were assembled onto a map of Mars.
