The Saturday Club at Manchester School of Art offers young people in school years 9 – 11 the opportunity to learn, explore, make, trial, draw, examine, interrogate and take risks through creative workshops held at Manchester Metropolitan University. Young people gain access to one of the oldest Art Schools in the country and get to work alongside current students, exploring and experimenting in collaboration, working on live briefs and exploring the realms of creativity – from design to performance, large scale installation to protest, this club will push your understanding of what an Art School might have to offer!
We find that the Art&Design club nurtures young people’s creativity and we have seen a real emphasis on activism through art, seeing young people develop their voice and have a platform for self and collective expression. Sessions are fun and relaxed, Club members developing lasting friendships and often finding their tribe, while also allowing young people to learn about the breadth of Art and Design courses on offer at Higher Education. Club allows young people to experience exciting and varied creative disciplines giving them a platform to ask questions about further education and careers within the creative sector.
Club members also take part in national events including Masterclasses with leading industry professionals and the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs nationwide exhibit their work in a public exhibition – all for free!
