The University of Northampton, Winchester School of Art, and Northbrook MET Saturday Clubs were joined by Juliana Sissons for a Masterclass in ‘zero-waste pattern-cutting’. Juliana talked to the Clubs about the process of designing with minimal material for sustainability. The members then took part in a series of hands-on activities using special materials packs that had been sent to them for the session.
As a first task, members created a Balenciaga style coat with minimal seams from a printed paper template, and then explored a variety of pattern designs for skirts and trousers, with a focus on geometric patterns.
In the final activity, everyone chose to create their own piece, with garments including skirts, trousers and coats being created on 30-cm mannequins.
