Manchester Metropolitan University Society&Change Saturday Club were joined by Transport for Greater Manchester for a Masterclass in policy development.
The day began with a presentation from the Transport for Greater Manchester team, who introduced themselves and shared their career pathways. They explained the Bee Network, Manchester’s public transport system, focusing on recent bus route revisions and the policy decisions behind them.
To start, Club members mapped out the benefits of public transport, highlighting affordability, reliability, and environmental impact. They then analysed case studies of different Manchester residents, discussing who would benefit most from investment in the Bee Network and how best to communicate these decisions, considering funding challenges and accessibility.
After a break, Club members created a form of communication to explain their policies. Some wrote and performed a rap, while others designed posters or crafted speeches. The session concluded with engaging presentations, showcasing their creativity and understanding of transport policy.
